What should I eat/drink before and after a Massage?
Drink lots of water before and after a Massage. Hydration is important! During a Massage your body temperature changes and toxins/wastes are moved through you. If you do not hydrate you may feel sick after deep work especially. Eat before a massage, but consider a healthy, light snack or meal that won't leave you feeling bloated.

Should I say something if the pressure is too much or too light?
Communicate with your Massage Therapist about how you're feeling. Tell the Therapist if the pressure is too much or too little. Let the Massage Therapist know if something feels good or feels sore.

Should Massage hurt?
If you are in pain then receiving Massage and Bodywork can help! Imagine those sore muscles getting worked out by a skilled Massage Therapist. It's going to feel great, right? Well, if you're experiencing pain in an area, chances are someone touching you there might hurt at first, or simply feel sore. The goal at Peace of Mind is to locate and target the painful spots and figure out the pain patterns, work them out, and help make you feel better. There may be some soreness associated with deep work, a day after you may feel sore like from a work out. Then the pain should subside and the positive results of increased range of motion, looser muscles, and decreased trigger points/knots should be felt. Communication is key, always tell the Massage Therapist if you're past your pain threshold. Clients describe a "good pain", that is what "deep" Massage Therapy should produce. At Peace of Mind the mission is to provide pain reduction and therapeutic Massage while relaxing and soothing the client at the same time.

Is there anything I can do to enhance my Massage experience?
Use your Massage time to clear your head. Focus on your breathing. Don't help or assist with movement unless the Massage Therapist asks (During Active Isolated Stretching there are moves that require the client to push against the Therapists pressure, for example), allow the Massage Therapist to do the work and just relax. If you want to talk during your Massage then that is fine, but also try to listen to your body during the Massage. Practice any home care tips the Massage Therapist gives you. These tips might include strengthening and lengthening exercises, heat/cold therapy, and self massage techniques. If you do these things between Massage Therapy appointments you will get optimal results.

Should I check with my Doctor before receiving Massage Therapy?
If you are pregnant, have a medical condition or are recovering from surgery and/or injury check with your regular Doctor before receiving Massage Therapy. Sometimes Doctor's will write a prescription for Massage or highly recommend it for your issue. It will give you peace of mind to know Massage is safe and effective for your condition.

How often should I receive Massage Therapy?
Massage can deliver instant relief but use it preventatively to get the best, long lasting results. Put it on your schedule as regular maintenance and commit to taking care of your body. Once a month is good for a "normal" person. If you are dealing with chronic pain or if you are recovering from injury and/or surgery you and the Massage Therapist will discuss a treatment plan tailored to fit your needs.

When should I call to schedule my Massage?
When should I call to schedule my Massage? Schedule your massage ahead of time, try not to wait till the day of or you may not be able to get in. Try to give 24 hours notice or more to solidify a spot with your favorite Massage Therapist.
