Hydrotherapy Massage

In addition to offering Hot Stone Therapy, Peace of Mind Therapeutic Massage and Wellness has professional grade hydrocollator packs that offer deep muscle relief with their steaming hot packs. A hydrocollator pack is a silica gel filled pack that is soaked in hot water to provide prolonged moist heat. The packs feel heavy on the body and that pressure is also enjoyable. A hydrocollator is good for any issue that would benefit from penetrating heat. Remember, an electric heating pad does not penetrate past the skin. Hydrocollator packs penetrate into the muscles and fascia causing them to relax and rejoice! These packs are kept in water that reaches no higher than 160 degrees. It is important to wrap them in up to 5 layers of towels. Client feedback is very important and the Massage Therapist will continuously check in with the client to make sure it is not over heating them. These packs should not be kept on the body longer than 20 minutes at a time.

Heat is best when used to warm up the muscles before a work out. So if you are preparing for a sporting event receiving a massage with hydrotherapy will improve the elasticity of the tendons and ligaments and provide you with better ease of movement. Heat is also great to relieve muscle soreness and pain. Heat treats chronic pain, stiffness, and muscle aches by bringing circulation and oxygen rich blood flow to the areas of pain. It is not to be used in the acute phase of injury or on an inflamed area because it increases circulation and raises skin temperature. Hot stones, hydro collator packs, hot towels, and an electric heated blanket on the table are the forms of heat therapy used at Peace of Mind. We also give recommendations for home care with the use of heat. Cold therapy is used on acute injuries and inflammation by narrowing of the blood vessels. This is great for joint injuries and stiffness. Cold can actually be very soothing on areas of pain and inflammation. Along with treating acute injuries, cold therapy can be useful for chronic conditions such as a chronic knee pain felt when cycling or running. Cold Therapy is great for tennis elbow and when used regularly before a tennis match, less pain and better performance can be achieved. At Peace of Mind we have gel filled ice packs that can be contorted around body parts and big enough for large areas such as the back. At Peace of Mind we specialize in Deep Tissue and that can cause soreness like from a work out for the client. Use of ice after a deep massage or a hard work out is always a good idea. We can offer home care cold therapy recommendations for our clients. Hydrotherapy is excellent in conjunction with massage for maximum results. At Peace of Mind we do not charge extra for use of any of our hydrotherapy options. We usually assess right away if the client could benefit from use of these tools and then ask if it is okay for us to use hydrotherapy during the massage. We also take requests! If you are looking for a massage with use of hot stones, hot towls, hot packs, heated table, or cold packs just ask! It is a good idea to book a longer massage such as 75 or 90 minutes when booking a hydrotherapy massage
